Young Professionals Event


The Young Professionals Event (YP) for ICOPS & APCOPTS 2024 took place in Beijing, China on June 18 at the Beijing International Convention Center. This is one of the highlights of the 51st IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) and the 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma and Terahertz Science (APCOPTS). The ICOPS is an annual conference coordinated by the Plasma Science and Applications Committee (PSAC) of the IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS). For the first time the ICOPS is held in China. The 51st ICOPS & 4th APCOPTS are chaired by Prof. Tao Shao from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The conferences are jointly hosted by the NPSS, the China Electrotechnical Society and the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The event is chaired by Associate Prof. Yifei Zhu from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Prof. Zilan Xiong from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Specially invited guests include Prof. Svetlana Starikovskaia from the Ecole Polytechnique (France), Prof. Julian Schulze from the Ruhr University in Bochum (Germany), Prof. Anbang Sun from Xi'an Jiaotong University (China), Prof. Tatloon Chng from the National University of Singapore (Singapore), Dr. Xianjie Wang from the Research Center of Midea Group (China), and more than 60 domestic and foreign young scholars attended the YP Event.

The ICOPS & APCOPTS 2024 YP organizing committee collected many questions before the meeting and classified them into 5 common questions. After the event started, everyone had a discussion and exchange in the form of question and answer. The chairman first introduced the invited speakers, they shared their personal growth experiences, experiences, and perspectives on common issues, finally a free discussion and Q&A was conducted.

Due to the age range of the invited speakers at the event covered the entire career cycle of professionals, their research covers the main application fields of plasma, and the countries cover both Asian and European countries, a comprehensive Q&A and discussion feast on life choices, career planning, differences between China and the West, and differences between students and workers had be brought to the participating young researchers.

Tea, desserts, and unique exquisite gifts for all guests and attendees had been prepared prior to the event. Everyone had a fulfilling and enjoyable journey of knowledge.

The event guests jointly discussed and shared their experiences and ideas on research direction selection, work unit selection, challenges encountered in scientific research and life, and the operational models of scientific research systems in their respective countries. From the perspective of academic and industrial growth, valuable and distinctive suggestions were put forward to the attendees. After the two-hour event, students and young scholars continued to be reluctant to leave and engaged in close face-to-face Q&A and exchange with experts.
